Bryce Glass author Harley Trice is a Pittsburgh-based art & antiques dealer specializing in American furniture, fine art & glass from the 18th to the 20th centuries.

Harley’s book Bryce Glass: Art & Novelty in Nineteenth-century Pittsburgh, co-authored by Debra Coulson, was published in 2023 and can be found in the libraries of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The National Gallery of Art, The Cleveland Museum of Art, Yale, Princeton, Williams, the Library of Congress, as well as libraries in Holland, Germany, and Switzerland. His writing has also appeared in the magazine Antiques and several exhibition catalogs.

Harley acquired his first print — an etching by Alexander Calder — in 1964 while still an undergraduate at Brown University. Since then, Harley has become well-known for his expertise in American fine art and antiques, with a special focus on Soap Hollow furniture, Western Pennsylvania inlaid furniture, and Pittsburgh glass. Harley was a founding board member of the Pittsburgh Glass Center, as well as a board member of the Westmoreland Museum of American Art for two decades (1998-2019).

Harley’s collection of American furniture and glass has been featured in exhibitions including Possession Obsession at the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh (2002), and Innovation & Artistry in Pittsburgh Glass at The Frick Museum in Pittsburgh (2005), among others.

As an antiques dealer, Harley has exhibited at important art and antiques fairs including the Brandywine River Museum of Art, the Carnegie Museum of Art Antiques Show, the Chester County Antiques Show, and the Oakmont Pennsylvania Antiques Show. His clients have included The Heinz History Center, the Carnegie Museum of Art, and Reed Smith LLP, whose art collection Harley curated.

Bryce Glass is the culmination of author Harley Trice’s lifelong passion for his ancestors’ glass legacy, as well as his coauthor Debra Coulson’s commitment to scholarly excellence.
